Dave Sellers Really looking forward to the Isle of Man GP this year - we're supporting Triumph 675 rider Dave Sellers of DRS Racing as part of the Manx Grand Prix 'Back a Newcomer' scheme. Dave tells us "I’ve been racing since late 2003, I started my racing career straight after I left the Royal Navy when I moved up to Aberdeen. As I work offshore as an ROV Supervisor I struggle to string a full championship together, I raced motocross when I moved back to England as funds were short but the racing bug for getting back on the road circuit was too big so I moved back into it. The better I was doing at club racing the more I felt I needed to progress so in 2012 I decided to put my money where my mouth was and packed in work and entered a full seasons racing in the One Make series The Triumph Triple Challenge, staged as a support series within the British Superbikes championship. I finished the season 2nd in the cup championship and 8th overall. After the season had finished I needed to have knee surgery so thought it was good time to hang up my leathers for good. Well as you can guess, that didn’t last and I decided that this year it was time to try my hand at the ultimate open road circuit, the Manx GP."
We wish Dave all the best on his Triumph! Update 1/9/12: Congratulations to Dave, who finished 12th in the hotly-contested Newcomers A race on 27/8/14. Well done. www.manxgrandprix.org

Here is the 1978 750cc Triumph Tiger that was runner-up in the 1970-on class all togged up for the journey home. The owner tells us "This bike is a matching number UK model in Tawny Brown. This colour was used for one year only, so a handful of Tigers in that colour sold in the UK. The bike had been restored using the original parts where at all possible and is used regularly including a thousand mile trip through France each year."

  • Jan 2012: MOT Exemption Survey: Your Views Wanted. The possibility of exempting certain groups of vehicles from the requirement to have an annual MoT test has been under discussion since the end of 2010.
The Department for Transport issued a consultation on the subject in November, which included a proposal to exempt pre-1960 vehicles from testing. The full text of the consultation can be found at www.dft.gov.uk/consultations/dft-2011-27 . The Federation of Historic British Vehicle Clubs, of which we are a member, will be submitting a response to this consultation. Before responding the FHBVC needs to understand what historic owners feel about the proposal. Time is limited as responses have to be made before the end of January. The only practical way to obtain this information in time is by means of an on-line survey that addresses the key questions raised by the consultation. The FBHVC would like classic vehicle owners firstly to read the consultation documents and then to take part in their survey. The FBHVC will then make a formal response to the consultation based on the views expressed.
To take part in the survey visit http://fbhvc.co.uk/mot-survey/ , survey closes 26th January 2012.

  • 2011 Romney Marsh Classic Bike Events. 2011 is the twentieth year of the Rye Classic Bikejumble, so after twenty years we've decided to change the name to something more meaningful (if only to appease the ladies of Rye Tourist Information centre, who still get people asking where exactly in Rye is Ham Street....) We'll be putting together a display of old photos from earlier years, if you have anything of interest do drop us a line. So look out for Romney Marsh Classic Events, we're still at the same venue in Hamstreet, Kent TN26 2JD.

  • Rye (Hamsteet) Classic Bikejumble on Sunday, 16th May. Great turn-out of stalls with plenty of bargains, plus an impromptu Mustang fly-past. I'm reliably informed that the awesome howl as the Mustang banks is air passing thru' the gun-slots, not the turbo cutting in nor the screams of the pilot!
