Jack Osborne, Kent. 1923 Raleigh Model 3 350cc 2.75HP

This is a belt-drive 350cc side-valve machine, with three-speed Sturmey-Archer gearbox. The owner is 19-year-old Jack Osborne, who is really into his older machines. When Jack bought the Raleigh he was too young to take his motorcycle test to allow him to ride on the road, despite the Raleigh being just 2.75HP and with far less performance than a modern 125cc that Jack could ride at 18.

Jack tells us “Here is my recent purchase of this 1923 Raleigh Model 3, which I have admired for quite some time now. Next year I hope to ride this on the Banbury Run and the Pioneer Plus Run as I’ve just passed my A2 motorcycle test as I was too young to take it until May. The first keeper owned this bike for 82 years and it is in unrestored original condition. I can’t wait to create some great memories with this bike.”

Martyn Carter, Essex. 1972 Laverda SF750 Laverda

This twin-cylinder Laverda used design features from the Honda CB77 when they manufactured the 1966 650cc prototype. Only a few were produced in 1968. This led to the American Eagle 750 production, when Evel Knievel used the American Eagle exclusively between 1969 - 1970, and crashed heavily at Pocono on landing from a jump. This was before he was under contract with Harley Davidson.

The 750 GT and 750S came out in 1969 with a distinctive camel back petrol tank. The 750 SF was introduced in 1970-71 and the tank and seat were changed for 1972, exactly like the one on display. This motorcycle was manufactured at the Breganze factory in 1972, spent most of its life in Italy, where it was first restored and registered with the Automotoclub Storico Italiano, subsequently imported to the UK in 2021. Registered with the DVLA and restored again by Martyn Carter and used, with a 200-mile round trip to visit the Romney Marsh show.
